Puppy Vaccination Schedule

Puppy Vaccination Schedule - Dog Hotel In Panama and Daycare

Essential vaccines protect your dog from serious diseases, such as canine distemper, canine adenovirus (infectious hepatitis), and different variants of parvovirus. Combined, they form a multipurpose, viral triple or canine triple. The World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) defines essential vaccines as «those that, regardless of circumstances or geographic location, all dogs should receive.»

Puppies receive their first immunity from their mothers thanks to the antibodies contained at the beginning of lactation in their mother’s milk. This maternal immunity lasts less than 3 months (provided the puppy has been breastfed adequately), and then disappears, so the puppy will not be adequately protected if vaccination does not begin on time.

Let’s get to know the Puppy Vaccine Schedule

Vaccination schedule When to vaccinate a puppy?

Below we tell you what the vaccination schedule for puppies would be like:

  • At 45 days of life (approximately 6 weeks): First dose of the bivalent vaccine (Distemper and Parvovirus). Rottweiler, Husky, Doberman and Golden breed dogs, and those that have some of these breeds in their genetic heritage, are especially vulnerable to Parvovirus, so they should be administered the first dose of this vaccine before 45 days. .
  • At 9 weeks of age: Pentavalent vaccination, which will ensure protection against Canine Distemper, Parvovirus, Infectious Hepatitis C, Leptospirosis and Parainfluenza. The Coronavirus vaccine is optional.
  • At 12 weeks of age: Revaccination with pentavalent vaccine (2nd dose).
  • From 3 months of age: Rabies vaccine + third dose of pentavalent.
  • Repeat the Rabies vaccine annually or biannually (depending on CCAA legislation).
  • Repeat the pentavalent vaccination annually to ensure that our dog is protected against the main pathogens.
Subsequently, and optionally, we can protect them against kennel cough, Lyme disease, Leishmaniasis and Coronavirus.

Am I required to vaccinate my puppy?

Yes, there are vaccines that you are required to have your dog have. The main one is the Rabies vaccine. This vaccine is not effective before the dog’s first 12 weeks of life. It is administered from 3 months and the dog will be protected after 14 days. For this reason, if you want to travel with your dog, we recommend that the veterinarian inject it at least a month before the trip.

Important: Puppies are born with parasites transmitted by the mother through the placenta and milk during lactation. For this reason, it is essential to deworm the puppies before starting the vaccination.
